A soldier returning to the UK from the Falklands has had his Ascension Island delay extended by 8 days at Her Majesty’s Pleasure.
ASCENSION ISLAND: MPA MAN IMPRISONED FOR 8 DAYS

A soldier returning to the UK from the Falklands has had his Ascension Island delay extended by 8 days at Her Majesty’s Pleasure. Samuel James Taylor, 19 was arrested by the Ascension Branch of the St. Helena Police for Driving while Unfit through Drink, Behaving in a Drunk and Disorderly Manner and Taking a vehicle without the Owner’s Consent. Mr. Taylor was taken into custody at approximately 0830 on 03 July 2005 and transported to Georgetown, where he was questioned and held until the Magistrate’s Court Session on Monday morning where he was convicted on all three counts against him. For Driving while unfit through drink, Mr. Taylor will spend 8 days in HM Prison on Ascension Island and then be escorted to the Southbound Airbridge, where he will be returned to the Falkland Islands. For Behaving in a Drunk and Disorderly Manner, Mr Taylor will serve 2 days in Prison, to run concurrently with his sentence on Count 1 and for Taking a Vehicle Without the Owner’s Consent, Mr Taylor will serve 3 days in Prison to run concurrently with the sentences handed down in Counts 1 and 2.
