Frances Douse, stunning in a floor length a-line wine coloured gown, was crowned May Queen 2005 by H.E. the Governor Mr. Howard Pearce at Midnight on 20 May.  Her May Princess was Ros Elsby in a traditional pastel blue gown with a full skirt.  Her dancing partner, Michael Brownlee, in a black suit and white shirt won the Prince Charming competition, with Marcus Porter, in a lighter suit and white shirt, his runner-up.

In all, 17 ladies and 13 potential Prince Charmings took to the floor to enjoy an evening of dancing.  The Ladies were: Terri Clifford,, Danielle Greenough, Nadia Smith, Tamara McCormick, Helen McKay, Frances Douse, Emily Hancox, Anna Connolly, Christine Ross, Gilly Cotter, Ros Elsby, Lizzy Newton, Jodie Poole, Sara Short, Tegen Montgomerie and Chanelle Berntsen.  The men taking part were: Sam Elliot, Michael Goss, John Didlick, Clint Short, Craig Williams, Liam Stevens, Mark Dodd, Matthew Vincent, Michael Brownlee, Conrad Francis, Alex Pearce, Marcus Porter and Tom Howe.

The theme for this year’s May Ball centred around the 20th anniversary of Mount Pleasant.  The Hall was decorated with RAF ensigns and cut-outs of tri-stars and Tornados, with a Phantom or two for good measure.  Those with the worst job of the night were the judges: Diedre McCormack, Stephanie Toerin and Al Telford.

As usual, the atmosphere was electric but it mellowed somewhat after the crowning ceremony was over.  Thanks to MC Phil Middleton, all went smoothly and everyone had an excellent time.
