A parade in honour of H. M. the Queen’s 79th birthday took place at Victory Green on the morning of Thursday, 21 April 2005 beginning at 1030. Though there was no sunshine, the weather was calm and it did not rain on the parade. At 1015, the Band of the Light Division, marchers from H.M.S. Dumbarton Castle, the FIDF, and a contingent from the RIC at MPA formed up in the parking lot behind the Town Hall and began to march towards Victory Green.
Commander British Forces South Atlantic Islands, Air Commodore Richard Lacey and Mrs Lacey, arrived at 1028, followed by H. E. the Governor and Mrs. Pearce in the Taxi. Governor’s Cadet, Terri Sue Clifford was on hand with the Civil/Military Liaison Officer, LCDR Mascell-Bott.
Following the raising of the Governor’s standard, an inspection by H. E. the Governor Mr. Pearce and Air Commodore Lacey of the Guard of Honour and the rest of the military present took place. During the inspection the Band of the Light Division played. This was followed by a 21-gun salute from the Vicars Guns on Victory Green. Unfortunately, the fly-past was cancelled but those who went to the parade were treated by a fantastic double-quick marching performance by the Band of the Light Division after the rest of the parade marched off.
At midday there was a reception held in honour of H.M. the Queen’s 79th birthday at Government House. A loyal toast was given.
