SOUTH AMERICAN PRESS REPORTS FLIGHTS TALKS RESUMPTION

By J. Brock (FINN)

Several Argentine newspapers have reported today that there have been talks between British Foreign and Commonwealth Office Minister, Bill Rammell and the Argentine Foreign Minister, Raphael Bielsa in Colombia.  Both men were at a 24-nation conference, where it is reported that Mr. Rammell initiated the talks.  Other reports say that Mr. Bielsa initiated them.  With the two men were also Sir Thomis Duggin, British Ambassador to Colombia and Mr. Martin Balsa, Argentine Ambassadot to Colombia.

As in other discussions about charter flights between Argentina and the Falklands, the reports of the meeting came from an Argentine source.  That source, according to a report in Clarin, only reported the fact that the meeting took place and that the talks were “Substantial.”

Both sides no doubt will discuss the talks with relevant authorities and the South American Press claims that Mr. Bielsa will have to report to Argentine President Kirchner.  Mr. Rammel, it is thought, will report tto his superiors at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London.  Ultimately, it is the people of the Falklands who will decide whether any direct communications with Argentina will take place.
