HONOURS DEGREE FOR CHRISTINE JONAS

By Paul George

Twenty five year old Christine Jonas, daughter of Maureen Jonas of Farm Lodge, has gained a BSc (Honours) 2.1 in Sports Education.

This is an excellent achievement for her, especially as she was educated on St. Helena.

For three-years, Christine worked hard with her studies at the University of Gloucester UK, and graduated late last year.

Maureen told the Herald that Christine didn’t take a bond with the Government to cover her expenses, but very much provided the funds herself. At times the family assisted her financially too.

Christine wants to come back home and see the family. Her mother is unsure if her daughter will stay and take on local employment, especially as the wage she would earn would be far less compared to what she would earn in the UK.

Well done Christine! Let’s hope that one day the money will be better here for the particular career path that you have chosen, and perhaps you’ll come back and teach your skills on the Island where you were educated.
