WOOL REPORT: for the week ending Friday 31st December 2004


 


 


Auctions


 


There were no auctions this week.


 


Southern Hemisphere wool markets thus closed the calendar year of 2004 as follows:


 


The Australian Eastern Market Indicator was last quoted on 16th December 2004 at 743 A cents; this is 32 cents (4.13 percent) lower than the opening level for January 2004 of 775 A cents.


 


In New Zealand, the Fine Indicator and Medium Indicators were last quoted at 949 NZ cents and 452 NZ cents respectively on 16th December. The Fine Indicator dropped 79 cents (7.68 percent) on the year from an opening level of 1,028 cents whilst the Medium Indicator closed 95 cents (17.37%) lower from 547 NZ cents.  The Strong Indicator closed at 364 NZ cents and the Lamb Indicator closed at 359 NZ cents on 22nd December.  The Strong Indicator has drifted 20 cents (5.21%) on the year from 584 NZ cents whilst the Lamb Indicator has also drifted 20 cents ((5.28%) in 2004 from 379 NZ cents.


 


The South African Overall Merino Indicator closed the year on 8th December 2004 at 2,407 SA cents/kg clean which is 406 cents (14.43 percent) lower than the opening level for January 2004 of 2,813 SA cents/kg clean.
