Students at the Infant/Junior School in Stanley have presented their annual Christmas Carol Service and Nativity at Christ Church Cathedral on Wednesday, 01 December 2004.  The venue began with an introduction by Head Teacher, Mr. John Farrow.  “Jesus was Born in Bethlehem,” the first song, was accompanied by the Recorder Group as well as Mrs Shirley Adams Leach on the Organ.  The full Church then heard a reading by Sarah Faria and Samuel Miller.  “Little Donkey,” a favourite then followed, with another reading by Kelly Marie Stevens and Corey Bagley after that.  A reading by Jordan Phillips, with “Little Angles” being sung by the Infants only, followed the carol “Away in a Manger”.  Aiden Morris and Laura Miller read and the Juniors sang, ”Shepherds Have left their Sheep.”  Sally Heathman and “The First Noel followed this with a reading.

The Reverend Paul Sweeting spoke for a few minutes about the one baby, a complete orchestra, a mountain, a Camel, and H.M. the Queen that he had in a box normally used to package 5 reams of A-4 Paper.  Of course, the box held a picture of a baby, a CD, a photo of a mountain, a toy Camel and a £20.00 note.  “Now, I was telling the truth, but it needed a little investigating, didn’t it.  It wasn’t immediately obvious, it wasn’t immediately clear.  At Christmas we are celebrating God’s fulfilling promise in Jesus.  That might have seemed a bit far-fetched.  But, if we could fit a camel in this box and Her Majesty, the Queen, then at Christmas, we can celebrate God’s love coming into the world.  Who knows?”  And, “Mary Had A Baby,” sung by everyone, followed this.

Calypso Carol preceded some words by the Head Teacher Mr. John Farrow, who mentioned that this was his 38th year of Christmas in schools.  He also mentioned that each Carol service was unique.  Thank-yous went to teachers who prepared so well for the Carol service, Mrs. Shirley Adams-Leach for playing the organ, Rev. Sweeting for his talk and for “loaning” the Cathedral for the service, all the children for their good work and everyone for coming

And, the Carol Service ended with the all time favourite, “Jingle Bells.”
