WOOL REPORT: for the week ending Friday 10th September 2004

Auctions

The Australian Eastern Market Indicator (EMI) gained four cents to 779 A cents on Tuesday, added a cent on Wednesday and remained unchanged on Thursday.  The EMI thus closed the week up five cents at 780 A cents.  Pass-ins averaged 10.5% for Australian wool but 29.6% for some New Zealand Merino wool.

In New Zealand the Fine Indicator was not quoted.  The Medium Indicator was quoted up five cents on the week at 555 NZ cents.  The Strong Indicator was up five cents to 422 NZ cents whilst the Lamb Indicator was not quoted.  There was a 91% clearance.

The South African Overall Merino Indicator lost 1.3% on the week, from 2,816 SA cents to 2,778 SA cents/kg clean which is the level it was at three weeks ago.

The British sale saw 85% sold with prices firm to sellers favour.

Currencies

The Australian dollar was trading about a cent weaker at A$2.57/£. The New Zealand dollar was also about a cent weaker at 2.74 NZ cents/£.

FWG Agency

Interesting enquiries were again received this week, with a 2 tonne lot of 28.0µ speciality scouring fleece wool (high yield/low vm) contracted at 235 p/kg.

Any additional supplies of wool would be much welcomed by our customers.

More statements are en-route to farms.

With Best Wishes

Robert
