NEW DIRECTOR FOR OVERSEAS TERRITORIES

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has announced that the new Director for the Overseas Territories is Peter Hayes, who took up office on 15 October 2012, replacing Colin Roberts, who is taking up another Diplomatic Service posting.

Peter Hayes has an extensive career in the Diplomatic Service most recently as High Commissioner to Sri Lanka and High Commissioner to the Maldives.

On his new position, Peter Hayes commented:

“I am delighted to take up this role at such an important time, as we take forward the ambitious agenda for re-energising the relationship between the UK and Overseas Territories.

“It is an especially important time for St Helena with the coming of the new airport. It will be a real privilege to be able to work with the Governor and with St Helena Government throughout this exciting time for the Island.”
