The very popular Goss Girls

People of all ages participated in this year’s Farmers Week FIODA Variety show, held in the Town Hall at 1900 on Wednesday, 14 July 2004.  The 20-act show featured students of the Infant/Junior School, ably lead by music teacher, Shirley Adams-Leach and encouraged by their teachers. This annual event helps to make Farmers’ Week special indeed.

The Photos show:  The Infant Junior School Choir  and Marcus Porter with Sam Elliot on Drums

The show began with the Infant/Junior School Country Dancers, who did a variety of Scottish Country Dances, much to the delight of the audience.  Following on was a duet played on recorders by Bernice Hewitt and Mhari Eccles.  “I Want to Sing,” was executed with precision by the Infant/Junior School Choir and this was followed by a performance by the dance group consisting of J. Butler, S. McCullum, C. Berntsen and S. McCormick.  A solo, “Theme from the Titanic.” was performed by Karen Minto, with Sam Elliot and Marcus Porter following with an instrumental improvisation on electric guitar and drums.  More sedate but just as entertaining was a performance of “English Country Garden,” by the Infant/Junior School Recorder Players.

The Pictures Show:  The Rock Band, Anarky  and Min and Ken Newton's Puppet Show

Krysteen Ormond then sang a song by Avril Lavine entitled “Tomorrow.”  The Rock Band, Anarky followed with a performance of “Songs by Nirvana.”  Following on were songs performed by the FICS Folk Group.  Before the interval, Nim and Ken Newton entertained everyone with their puppet show.

Sue Gyford and Lee Hazell of News Direct                                                      "Airbridge"

After the interval, the very popular “Goss Girls” performed to an enthusiastic audience.  The Recycled Teenagers, who continued the performance with several instrumental and vocal pieces, accompanied them.  Jimmy Moffatt entertained the audience with his solo guitar.  A recitation of “The Green Eye of the Yellow God,” was performed by Norman McGregor Edwards, with Samantha Brownlee’s piano solo, “In Dreams,” from “Lord of the Rings,” following.  Lee Hazell and Sue Gyford got everyone chuckling with their spoof of News Direct.  Lizzy Newton performed “A New Day Has Come” by Celine Dion.  A skit called “Airbridge,” performed by Gary Tyrell, Norman McGregor-Edwards and Jason Lewis followed, with the Elliot Family, and an encore by Lizzy Newton finishing the evening.

Thanks goes to Rene Rowlands and Graham France for Front of the House, Edgar Sutton and Graham Didlick for the sound and lighting.  Phil Middleton acted as announcer for the evening and he kept everyone amused with his commentary about the woes of the Falkland Islands Government.  Stage Hands, Richard Fogerty and Olav Keene kept things running smoothly.  Thanks also goes to those who served refreshments during the break and to people who helped out in any way.  It was a truly entertaining evening.
