DR CORINDA ESSEX DEPARTS FOR EU-OCT FORUM

Departing the Island today, 14 September, is Dr Corinda Essex, Director of Corporate Procurement, to attend the European Union’s Overseas Countries and Territories Forum (EU-OCT) in Greenland from 24-28 September 2012.

Dr Essex will be joined at the forum by Head of the Delegation, Councillor Tony Green, SHG UK Representative, Kedell Worboys, and the UK Representative for Tristan da Cunha, Chris Bates.

The main topic of discussion at the forum will be the next Overseas Aid Decision which will determine how the EU will assist overseas territories after EDF10 ends. This is crucial in ensuring that St Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha continue to obtain EU funding and other support for their sustainable development.

Other topics of discussion will include EU support to all overseas territories and how this is currently working; plans for the future, and progress on EDF10 approved activities.

Dr Essex commented:

“By attending the EU-OCT Forum I am hoping to gain the best possible benefits for St Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha, both in terms of funding and other forms of assistance such as export of fish to EU markets on favorable terms.”

Dr Essex and Councillor Tony Green will make a full report of their attendance at the EU-OCT when they return to the Island on 11 October 2012.
