NEWS FROM ST HELENA TOURISM: LEMON VALLEY ENHANCEMENTS START

The past few days have seen considerable activity at Lemon Valley as a gantry has been erected as the initial part of the next phase of enhancement works. These works, undertaken by AMD Engineering contracted by Enterprise St Helena as part of the Tourism Development Project, will reinstate the pathway from the landing stage to the fortification wall and the erection of a stairway to improve access at the wall. The temporary gantry will allow easy unloading of materials and equipment for the works.

Already some tidying and other work has started on the pathway, to address water erosion and to stabilise path edges. Rock from the landing stage phase of the project is providing a base for part of the reinstated pathway.

“We are really pleased to see this next phase of the work progressing,” said Tourism Development Executive Mike Dean. “Lemon Valley is a popular location for Saints and visitors alike, as well as having a fascinating history. So it is great that we are able to improve access and facilities here so that more people can discover and enjoy Lemon Valley.”

It is anticipated that the work will completed well before Christmas, so that people can enjoy the area during the Christmas holiday period. In the meantime, the public should be aware that access to the landing stage is extremely restricted while the works are underway. The public will be kept up to date on how the works progress in the coming weeks, and when this phase of the enhancements is complete.
