SECOND MATHEMATICS ADVISORY TEACHER FOR PRINCE ANDREW SCHOOL

The Education and Employment Director Colin Moore is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Alex Gross Wilkinson as Advisory teacher for Mathematics. Alex is an experienced Maths teacher who joins us on 19 September 2012 fresh from a Mathematics post in a large secondary school in Wiltshire.

Colin said:

‘I am delighted that we have been able to recruit another successful and experienced Mathematics teacher. This appointment places us in a much improved position to raise standards even further in Maths. The future employment prospects of the children and young people of St Helena are dependent on top quality specialist teaching in key skill areas such as Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. ‘

Alex Gross Wilkinson said:

'I am very excited about working with the Education and Employment Directorate on St Helena, especially at such an important juncture in St Helena's future. The need for all students to have a good understanding of Mathematics will become increasingly important as St Helena's economy expands.'

Alex, who before becoming a teacher worked in software design, is keen to increase the use of ICT within the Math’s classroom. ‘Allowing students to interact with Maths, through the use of ICT, enables them to place the Maths within a context, which in turn creates a deeper level of understanding.'
