Falklands : Falklands: MOTION FOR ADJOURNMENT SPEECH OF THE HON MR KEITH PADGETT
Submitted by Falkland Islands News Network (Juanita Brock) 02.06.2012 (Article Archived on 16.06.2012)

Mr Speaker, as a man of few words I will keep it short. I have been in this House many times over the last 11 years, as has been said this is my first time as substantive Chief Executive. I sat in two seats around this table – I sat in several seats the other side of that barrier and I listened to various speakers on various things.

MOTION FOR ADJOURNMENT SPEECH OF THE HON MR KEITH PADGETT

Mr Speaker, as a man of few words I will keep it short.  I have been in this House many times over the last 11 years, as has been said this is my first time as substantive Chief Executive.  I sat in two seats around this table – I sat in several seats the other side of that barrier and I listened to various speakers on various things.

I would like to thank Members for their words of welcome.  In many ways the position of Chief Executive in the Falkland Islands is a unique post and as far as I am concerned it’s an honour and a privilege to be given this opportunity.

These are exciting times for the Falkland Islands in many ways and not just because of oil.  We’ve got many opportunities that will be challenging but will also, I believe, give us great success for the future.

I am aware that this is my honeymoon period and I will be trying to stretch that honeymoon as far as possible but I look forward to working with you on the policies you already got and policies that come up between us in the future.

Mr Speaker, I support the Motion.
