NEWS FROM ST HELENA TOURISM
“WHAT WAS THE HIGHLIGHT? EVERYTHING!”
The final cruise ship visit of the current season proved to be a great success on Monday, when the MV Athena visited the island. This was the first time the Athena had called at the island.
Over 300 passengers came ashore, with over 200 taking pre-arranged tours.
As usual, a survey of departing visitors was undertaken, and the results were extremely positive.
100% of the visitors surveyed rated their visit either Excellent or Good, with two-thirds rating their visit Excellent. 100% of the visitors also said they would recommend St Helena to friends or relatives.
As with previous visits, many people wished they had had longer to explore the island and the shops and businesses. When asked about highlights of their visit, there were several frequent mentions which included the friendliness of Saints, the scenery around the island, the Napoleonic properties and the St Helena Distillery. More than one person volunteered “everything!” as their response.
The success of such visits don’t rest on a few people, but on the whole island; and that success also benefits the island through both the great memories that the visitors will have taken away and also the money they spent during their time with us.
It is to be hoped that the success of this visit will encourage the Athena to visit again.
The next cruise ship visits will be when the season starts again at the end of 2012 and into 2013, when already several ships are scheduled to visit.
