NEWS FROM ST HELENA TOURISM

NAPOLEON’S DEATH TO BE COMMEMORATED

Saturday, 5 May, will mark the date on which Napoleon died at Longwood House. In partnership with the Honorary French Consul, St Helena Tourism is again coordinating a commemoration of this event.

The commemoration – “moment de mémoire” – will take place at 11.00am at The Tomb. It takes place alongside a similar commemoration held at Les Invalides in Paris, France, where Napoleon now lies interred. The format will be similar to previously, and will include the Last Post and wreath laying.

The commemoration will last around 20 minutes. If you are driving to The Tomb, then you are asked to park with care for other road users, or by using the parking next to the Tomb Road toilets. It takes approximately 10 minutes to walk down to The Tomb from the road, so you should aim to arrive by 10.45am.

Everyone is most welcome to join in this commemoration.
