By J. Brock (FINN)
A wine tasting with 40 guests took place at Government House on Tuesday, 10 January 2012. Ralph Jones and the staff of Government House organised the second annual event as a good method of choosing wine for the venue. Wines from the Falkland Islands Company Ltd, Stanley Services and the Chandlary were used in the tasting for the guests.
Score cards were handed out with choices to be graded from a high of 5 points to a low on one point. Admittedly some chose nil points to grade wines.
Results are as follows:
White wines
White Tores Vina Sol (FIC) (H) 3.15 points
Casa Silva Sauvignon blank (Chandlary) (E) 2.69 points
Montes Classic Sauvignon blank (SSL) (“I”) 2.64 points
Red Wines
Montes Purple Angel (Stanley Services Limited) 3.27 (“I”) (2nd place in 2011)
Casa Silva reserve Cabernet Sauvignon (Chandlary) H 3.1
Montes Folly (Stanley Services Limited) 3rd (F) 3 Points (1st Place in 2011)
There were no Rose wines this time.
Along with the wine there was bread to help clear the palate. Most people washed their glasses out before tasting different wines.
After the winners were read out H. E the Governor Mr Nigel Haywood thanked everyone for participating in the wine tasting
