Local man, Andrew Pollard, has been promoted to Senior Agricultural Advisor and will take up his duties in November when the present post holder, Mack MacArthur, completes his contract.  As well as his advisor’s role, Mr Pollard will be Head of Service for the Agricultural Unit.

In a press release from the Department of Natural Resources (Agriculture) Mr pollard is quoted as being very excited to take up the post, particularly when there is a time of optimism and ambition to develop businesses amongst the farming community.  “With the highly skilled team alongside me, I look forward to keeping the momentum moving forward,” said Mr Pollard.

Having a broad agricultural background, Mr Pollard specialises in Agronomy.  He attended Seal-Hain Agricultural College in Devon, UK and worked for 10 years at the Department of Natural Resources.  His post-graduate diploma in Agricultural Science was obtained at Lincoln University in Christchurch, New Zealand.  He is now working on his Master’s Degree.

“The outlook for Falklands’ Agriculture is positive with opportunities in meat and wool production,” said the Hon Mr Mike Summers, MLA, who holds the Agricultural Portfolio.  He went on to say that Natural Resources Department (Agriculture) had a significant contribution to make in developing these opportunities and improving farm profitability.  “It is pleasing to see Andrew appointed to this role.  He has worked through the system while acquiring qualifications and experience, which should serve him well for the challenges ahead.” said Mr Summers MLA.
