Financial Services Supervisor Appointed
Christopher Duncan is to be appointed as the new Financial Services Supervisor for St Helena with effect from 1st January 2012 when he will succeed Paddy Perry.
In the first instance, Christopher is being appointed as a member of the Financial Services Regulatory Authority which regulates and provides licences for all businesses providing financial advice and services on St Helena.
From 1st January 2012 Christopher will become the Financial Services Supervisor and Chairman of the Financial Services Regulatory Authority. It will be his role to ensure that ‘financial’ businesses operating on St Helena comply with the Financial Services Ordinance 2008.
Between now and then, Paddy Perry will continue to serve as the Financial Services Supervisor.
Christopher has extensive experience in financial services which includes corporate banking at senior Executive level and he has worked as an employee of the Barclays Group for over 36 years. This saw him carry out a wide range of management roles in the United Kingdom, Africa, the Far East and continental Europe.
Although he will work with the Island largely from off shore; Christopher is planning to make a familiarisation visit to St Helena in January 2012. Paddy Perry is also planning to be on the Island at that time so as to ensure an effective handover of responsibilities.
