Following the departure of the Attorney General, Mr Ken Baddon on overseas leave and, in accordance with sections 95 and 118(3) of the St Helena, Ascension and Tristan Da Cunha Constitution, Mr Francis Joseph Wastell, Crown Counsel, has been appointed to the position of Acting Attorney General with effect from 26 August 2010.
Appointment of Acting Attorney General and Locum Crown Counsel
Following the departure of the Attorney General, Mr Ken Baddon on overseas leave and, in accordance with sections 95 and 118(3) of the St Helena, Ascension and Tristan Da Cunha Constitution, Mr Francis Joseph Wastell, Crown Counsel, has been appointed to the position of Acting Attorney General with effect from 26 August 2010.
The Oaths of Office, administered by the Acting Governor, Mr Andrew Wells, took place in the Governor’s office at approximately 2.15 pm yesterday.
Frank, as he is more generally known, is no stranger to this role as he has performed the duties of Attorney General on several previous occasions while the substantive post holder was away on overseas leave.
In his capacity as Acting Attorney General, Frank will also serve as a member of both Executive and Legislative Councils until Ken’s return on the 18 October 2010.
Subsequently, and in accordance with section 19 of the Interpretation Ordinance, Cap 3, Ms Lorna Allison Drummond has been appointed Locum Crown Counsel for the period 23rd August – 12 October 2010.
