Falklands Prepare for Queen’s Birthday Parade
By J. Brock (FINN)
A parade to celebrate the birthday of Her Majesty the Queen will be held at Victory Green on Monday 21st April 2008. Forming up at Victory Green at 10.15 hours the parade will include the attendance of His Excellency the Governor, who will arrive at 10.30 hours.
Traditionally the parade proceeds along the usual route on Ross Road and features the raising of the Royal Standard and a gun salute from the canons on Victory green, followed by a march past at which His Excellency the Governor will take the Royal Salute.
Taking part in the parade will be contingents of the Royal Navy, the Army, the Royal Air Force, the Falkland Islands Defence Force, and members of youth organisations. Also in attendance will be representatives of the Legislative Council and the Falkland Islands Government. There will be a fly-past at approximately 10.45 hours.
This important occasion gives members of the public the opportunity to demonstrate their loyalty to the Crown and pay their respects to Her Majesty, whose presence is symbolised by the flying of the Royal Standard during part of the ceremony.
Members of the public attending the parade observe it from points on Victory Green and normally arrive by 10.15 hours. Police Officers on duty help people with the best viewing points as well as directing traffic.
