An excellent recipe book has been compiled by Julie Bellhouse and Alex Olmedo.

“TASTE OF THE FALKLANDS” LAUNCHED IN STANLEY

The £30.00 book is well worth checking out!

By J. Brock (Finn)

Alex Olmedo of the Falklands Brasserie and Julie Bellhouse of Studio 52 have spent the past two years compiling a recipe book of food featuring local ingredients.  “Taste of the Falklands”, the resulting book, was launched on Wednesday evening at the Brasserie at a reception for 200 guests.

During the launch speech, Ms. Bellhouse said that she had seen a seafood book and wanted to do the same thing with an emphasis on Falklands produce.  The result, after a lot of late nights and hard work, was a coffee table book costing £30.00.

Mr. Olmedo stressed while FIDC gave moral support, the project was completely self funded and launched during the 25th anniversary commemorations, which was good for the Falklands’ image as a modern and vibrant community.

Baroness Margaret Thatcher forwarded the book and H. E. the Governor Mr. Alan Huckle wrote the introduction for what the authors describe as a good gift as well as a memento from a Falklands visit

Mr. Olmedo paid special tribute to Sebastian, head chef at the Brasserie, for his attention to detail and for preparing each recipe to perfection.

Ms. Bellhouse thanked her fiancé, Geoff and her children as well as Alex for patience and inspiration during the project’s two-year completion.
