PRESS RELEASE
2007 REGISTER OF ELECTORS
As you may be aware, the exercise to compile the 2007 Register of Electors commenced on 17 January 2007. The cut-off date for persons who wish to be included in the 2007 Register is 4pm on Wednesday, 14 February 2007.
If you were included in the 2006 Register, then there is no need to worry; your name will automatically be included in the 2007 Register. However, if you have changed your name or address then you should take this opportunity to update your personal information to ensure that the Register is as accurate as possible. Also, if you’ve had your eighteenth birthday since the compilation of the 2006 Register, then should now take this opportunity to register your name.
Remember, the 2007 Register will allow you to have your name listed to vote in a different Polling District from that in which you reside, as long as it is within the same electoral area. For example, if you live in Sandy Bay but it would be more convenient for you to vote in the Half Tree Hollow Polling District, then you can have your name listed in the Half Tree Hollow Polling District, as both Sandy Bay and Half Tree Hollow are in the West electoral area. However, if you live in Sandy Bay but would like to vote in the Jamestown Polling District, this would not be possible, as Jamestown falls under the East electoral area.
Registration forms can be obtained from the Registration Officer or Assistant Registration Officer at the Castle. If you can’t visit the Castle to collect a form personally, then feel free to give them a call on telephone number 2470 and they will arrange to have a form sent to you. Alternatively, you can contact any of the Assistant Registration Officers, whose names are listed in the Red Notices published around the Island and they will be able to provide you with a registration form.
Remember, if there is a By-Election or General Election, you will only be able to vote if your name is included in the 2007 Register of Electors. So don’t delay, you have only until 14 February to ensure your name is included.
