DESIRE AWAITS APPROVAL OF EIA
By J. Brock (FINN)
Desire Petroleum confirmed reports that a four-man team has recently completed a successful visit to the Falkland Islands when the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for drilling in Tranches C and D in the North Falkland Basin was presented and discussed as required by Falkland Islands Law. The presentation and a question and answer period with the four-man team took place at a well-attended public meeting in Stanley at the Chamber of Commerce. All going well, Executive Council should approve the EIA in due course.
All other preparations for further drilling are now nearing completion and the Company plans to be in a position to commence drilling immediately if a suitable drilling rig becomes available. The philosophy is to get as much of the plans complete before the rig arrives.
.
According to Dr. Colin Phipps of Desire Petroleum Plc, the rig market continues to be very tight and the Directors believe it may be some time before a rig could become available.. Desire is currently pursuing a number of options for securing a rig, although timing remains uncertain. By making all possible preparations now, the Company will be in a position to begin drilling should a rig suddenly become available at short notice.
While in the Falklands, the team submitted site survey proposals at nine locations to the Health and Safety Executive (acting on behalf of the Falkland Islands Government) for comment. The wells are expected to be drilled immediately after a suitable rig is procured.
