WOOL REPORT: for the week ending Friday 6th May 2005

Auctions

The Australian Eastern Market Indicator (EMI) remained unchanged at 722 A cents on Tuesday, gained at cent on Wednesday and dropped the same on Thursday.  The EMI thus closed the week unchanged at 722 A cents.  Again 87% of the 62,742 bale offering was sold.

In New Zealand, the Indicators were not available at time of writing.  There was a 78% clearance of the large offering of 19,360 bales.  “Prices remained generally unchanged or only 1% cheaper.” WRWMR

In South Africa the Cape Wools Overall Merino Indicator dropped 6 percent this week, going from 2,539 to 2,388 SA cents/kg.

Currencies

The Australian dollar was trading a cent stronger against the pound at A$2.43/£ with the result that sterling prices for Australian wool were maintained for all except the 24 micron index.  The New Zealand dollar was trading four cents stronger at 2.59 NZ cents/£ towards the end of the week.

FWG Agency

Marketing wool from the first voyage of the Marriane Danica continues to proceed well against the current global wool and currency background.  Today, FIC at last produced a final shipping list for the Marriane Danica’s second voyage, with several very serious farm bale cargo omissions.

Please would those farmers who have not already done so, please send URGENTLY the bale specifications for their bales on the second FIC voyage.  Many thanks for all those bale specifications we have received recently.

With Best Wishes

Robert
